ABA National Appellate Advocacy Team Advances to National Championship
February 29, 2012LSU Law Center’s American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Team competed with extraordinary success February 23 through 25 at the regional rounds of the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. Jennifer O’Connell, Christopher Cummings, Chelsea Gomez, Danielle Prado, Cameron Snowden, and Joshua Wood comprise the team. The team of Jennifer O’Connell, Danielle Prado, and Christopher Cummings will travel to Chicago in April to compete at the National Championship, a first for the Law Center. LSU Law Center to Host 59th Annual Mineral Law Institute
February 29, 2012John Hofmeister, Founder and CEO of Citizens for Affordable Energy and retired President of Shell Oil Company, will be the keynote speaker at the 59th Annual Mineral Law Institute that will be held March 22 and 23 in the McKernan Auditorium at the LSU Law Center.

Law Center Ranked Best School in the Nation for Bar Exam Preparation
February 22, 2012It’s no surprise to generations of LSU Law graduates that the school is # 1 in the state when it comes to preparing students to pass the Louisiana State Bar Examination. But a recent study conducted by The National Jurist magazine identified LSU Law as the # 1 school in the nation in terms of first-time bar passage ratios in a predictive statistical model based on LSAT scores.

First Circuit Court of Appeal Schedules Hearings at LSU Law Center
February 6, 2012Chief Judge Burrell J. Carter ('58) of the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal has announced that the First Circuit will hold hearings in the David Robinson Courtroom at Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, and Thursday, February 9, 2012.

Family Mediation Clinic Students Get Professional Training
February 6, 2012The LSU Law Center Family Mediation Clinic hosted the 2nd Annual Association of Family and Conciliation Courts – Louisiana Chapter Conference on January 27 and 28, 2012 at the Law Center. The conference was entitled “Technology, Trauma, and Transformation: Current Issues in Family Court” and was attended by over 50 judges, lawyers, domestic mediators, mental health professionals, and parenting coordinators. The students in the Family Mediation Clinic attended the conference which was the capstone to the intensive domestic mediation training they have been doing every weekend since the start of the Spring 2012 semester. Moot Court Team Wins Best Brief
February 2, 2012The Law Center’s NBLSA Frederick Douglass Moot Court team of David Pointer and Barry Edwards took home honors for best brief at the regional competition in Birmingham, Alabama on January 20-22. The team advanced to the quarterfinal round of the competition in an exceptionally close match. The team received an award for writing the “Best Brief for the Petitioner” at the regional. Over 150 law schools compete in the national competition which is sponsored by the National Black Law Students Association. NBLSA Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Team Advances to National Competition
February 2, 2012Bryan Francis, Reshonda Thompson, Lykisha Vaughan, and Charles Watkins with the Law Center’s National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial team took third-place honors at the regional level of the competition held January 20 to 22 in Birmingham, Alabama. This win earned the team one of eighteen spots in the national rounds of the competition that will be held in Washington, DC in March. Twenty-six law schools from Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida competed in the regional competition, and nearly two hundred law schools compete nationally for the coveted eighteen spots at nationals. LSU Law Arbitration Team Places in Top 8 Nationally
February 2, 2012The Law Center’s American Bar Association (ABA) Arbitration Competition team of Natalie Baily, Arthur Kraatz, Lisa Martinez, and Zealon Solomon placed among the top eight teams in the United States at the national championships of the Arbitration Competition, which were held January 20-22 at the ABA National Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. The team had previously placed second in its regional competition, earning one of only twelve spots at the National Championships. Fifty-eight teams from thirty-eight different law schools competed in this year’s Arbitration Competition. Arbitration, a form of alternative dispute resolution, is a settlement technique for the resolution of disputes…
