The Law Center’s American Bar Association (ABA) Arbitration Competition team of Natalie Baily, Arthur Kraatz, Lisa Martinez, and Zealon Solomon placed among the top eight teams in the United States at the national championships of the Arbitration Competition, which were held January 20-22 at the ABA National Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. The team had previously placed second in its regional competition, earning one of only twelve spots at the National Championships. Fifty-eight teams from thirty-eight different law schools competed in this year’s Arbitration Competition.
Arbitration, a form of alternative dispute resolution, is a settlement technique for the resolution of disputes outside the court system in which parties submit their dispute to a third-party arbitrator for a legally binding decision. The team is coached by Mr. James Carver, an alumnus of the Law Center, with assistance from Professor Jeffrey Brooks.
