June 21, 2019The Law Center is pleased to welcome Chandel McDonald, J.D., to the Office of Alumni Relations. Chandel comes to us as a former Westlaw Client Manager who served law firm clients throughout Louisiana and MS. She was a top client manager and a President’s Award Recipient for Top Performance twice during her service to Thomson Reuters/Westlaw. She also served as a legal recruiter and consultant for over five years and spent several years in practice as a real estate attorney in the Baton Rouge and the New Orleans areas. 135 LSU Law students participating in field placements this summer
June 18, 2019The Field Placement Program (formerly known as the Externship Program) has 135 students participating in field placements for the Summer 2019 semester. This is the largest class since the summer placement program was created in 2011. Students are placed with judges, government agencies, and non-profit organizations in cities across the United States, with placements everywhere from Los Angeles, CA to Tampa, FL, to Washington, DC. This summer’s largest host organizations are the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office, and the East Baton Rouge Office of the Public Defender. LSU Law graduate Victoria Heyer receives LSBA Law Student Pro Bono Award
June 18, 2019LSU Law Class of 2019 graduate Victoria Heyer was recently honored with the 2019 Law Student Pro Bono Award, given by the Louisiana State Bar Association. Heyer, a native of Ponchatoula, La., received the award at a ceremony May 21 at the Louisiana Supreme Court in New Orleans. Heyer was the Pro Bono Chair of the LSU Public Interest Law Society for the 2018-19 school year and completed more than 100 hours of pro bono service. Students receive academic honors for Spring 2019 Semester
June 12, 2019The LSU Law Center has announced the names of those law students who earned academic honors for the Spring 2019 semester. Fifty-one students were awarded the Paul M. Hebert Scholar honor, and 77 students were selected to be Dean’s Scholars. The Paul M. Hebert Scholar is awarded to the top 10 percent and the Dean’s Scholar is awarded to the top 25 percent of LSU Law students earning 12 or more semester hours of credit in courses taken at the Law Center. Louisiana Legislature honors longtime LSU Law professor George Pugh
June 6, 2019The Louisiana state legislature honored longtime LSU Law professor George W. Pugh on Wednesday with a commendation passed during the regular session. The resolution was filed by senators Dan Claitor, John Alario, Conrad Appel, Gerald Boudreaux, Norby Chabert, Page Cortez, Jack Donahue, Ryan Gatti ('99), Ronnie Johns, Gerald Long, Jay Luneau, Daniel Martiny, John Milkovich ('82), Fred Mills, J.P. Morrell, Barrow Peacock, Gary Smith, Gregory Tarver, Michael Walsworth, Rick Ward, and Mack Bodi White and Representative Franklin Foil.
