Law Center's ABA Arbitration Team Takes Third Place at National Championship
January 30, 2014The LSU Law Center's American Bar Association Arbitration Competition team took third place at the national championships of the Arbitration competition. Deanna Candler, Anna Grand, Justin Hall and Leigh Hall traveled to Chicago for the national championship that was held January 24 and 25 at the ABA's headquarters. The students were one of 56 teams from 37 law schools that competed in this year's Arbitration competition. LSU Law alumnus James Carver ('89) coaches the team. The ABA Law Student Division Arbitration Competition promotes greater knowledge of alternative dispute resolution by simulating a realistic arbitration hearing. Participants prepare and present an…

The Verdict is In: Students Praise First Apprenticeship Week
January 23, 2014If you ask LSU Law student Robert Hoke, he’ll tell you that Apprenticeship Week is, “Definitely something that every student should experience.” Hoke was one of over 130 LSU Law students who began the spring 2013 semester early to attend Apprenticeship Week, an innovative and unique new program of legal education at the Law Center. From January 6 through 10, the program provided students an opportunity to learn about the practical aspects of legal education in focused, task-oriented, small enrollment mini-courses.

January 15, 2014Professor Keith Hall was a panelist on LPB’s Louisiana Public Square for a discussion on “Energy’s Environmental Footprint.” The segment aired February 26.
A biographer of U.S. President Millard Fillmore, Visiting Professor Paul Finkelman appeared on the February 16 airing of CBS Sunday Morning in the segment, “Millard Fillmore: A Presidential Portrait”.
Professor Ken Levy’s article, Why Retributivism Needs Consequentialism: The Rightful Place of Revenge in the Criminal Justice System, will appear in the forthcoming issue of the Rutgers Law Review.
On February 3, 2014, Teaching Fellow and Assistant Professor of Professional Practice Katherine Macfarlane presented “Understanding Stop-and-Frisk Litigation in the Second Circuit” at the University of Michigan Law School. The event was hosted by the Michigan Journal of Race & Law. On February 8, she will serve as a presenter at the LSU Women’s Leadership Symposium, addressing workplace gender issues.

On January 29, Visiting Professor Paul Finkelman presented “How a Railroad Lawyer Became the Great Emancipator: Abraham Lincoln, The Emancipation Proclamation, and Spielberg’s Movie,” at St. Bonaventure University.
Vice Chancellor Raymond Diamond was recently quoted in The Advocate article, "Louisiana Supreme Court upholds two statutes in gun law challenge."
