Pugh Institute for Justice to screen “Victim/Suspect,” featuring LSU Law professor

The George W. and Jean H. Pugh Institute for Justice will screen Netflix’s “Victim/Suspect” and host a panel discussion about the documentary at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center on Friday, Sept. 8. The symposium will take place in the McKernan Auditorium from 12:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. Documentary producer Rachel de Leon, retired detective Carlton Hershman and Wendy L. 18 LSU Law students nominated for Wex Malone Inn of Court membership in recognition of trial advocacy success

Eighteen LSU Law students were nominated for membership into the Wex Malone Inn of Court following their success in the Law Center’s 2023 Vinson & Elkins Trial Advocacy Program, which was held Aug. 7-9. Faculty members of the Trial Advocacy Program nominate a limited number of students from their respective sections for the honor of membership. The Wex Malone Inn of Court is one of 175 chapters of the American Inns of Court, a national organization of attorneys dedicated to improving civility, professionalism and ethics among the bench and bar. LSU Law Dean Alena Allen to discuss impacts of US Supreme Court decision to end race-conscious college admissions Nov. 30 at Baton Rouge Bar Association luncheon

LSU Law Dean Alena Allen will discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to end race-conscious college admission policies during an address to the Baton Rouge Bar Association on Thursday, Nov. 30, at its monthly luncheon. Just days before Allen began her tenure at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center on July 1, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) v. the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) v. Three new members appointed to LSU Mineral Law Institute Advisory Council

LSU Law is pleased to announce that three new members have been appointed to the 35-member advisory council of the LSU Mineral Law Institute, which is based at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center. The new members, who each began a three-year term on July 1, 2023, are:  Colleen Jarrott of New Orleans is a partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP. LSU Law alumnus, Louisiana Supreme Court Justice William Crain honored by Crimefighters, Inc. with Judge of the Year Award

LSU Law alumnus Louisiana Supreme Court Justice William J. Crain (’86), was honored by Crimefighters, Inc. with the organization’s Judge of the Year Award at its annual gala on July 25. “Receiving this distinguished award from a group of volunteers committed to advocating for the rights of crime victims is truly an honor,” said Crain. “Their efforts have supported victims of crime for nearly 30 years, and have resulted in protections now found in both our statutory and constitutional law.
