LSU Law announces new faculty hires, promotions for the Fall 2017 semester

LSU Law recently hired two new professors, promoted four others, and announced faculty status changes effective at the start of the Fall 2017 semester. The LSU Law Center welcomes Lecia Vicente and Raff Donelson as its newest faculty members. Flood Proof partnership helps more than 100 families, unlocks $3M in recovery funds since August 2016 flood

BATON ROUGE, La — August marks the one-year anniversary of the 2016 devastating floods in the Baton Rouge community. It also marks one year since the creation of the LSU Law Successions and Title-Clearing Clinic and its efforts to help homeowners obtain a clear title to their homes and receive federal recovery funds. According to Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS), which partnered with the LSU Law Clinic and other legal organizations to establish the “Flood Proof” project, 106 disaster impacted homeowners have been assisted to unlock $3,045,763 in flood recovery funding or other economic benefits in the past year. Eighteen LSU Law students were recently nominated for membership in the Wex Malone Inn of Court based on their performance during the LSU Law Center’s annual Trial Advocacy Program. LSU Law Parole and Reentry Clinic attorneys honored with awards

August 10, 2017

Jane Hogan and Keith Nordyke, attorneys working with the LSU Law Center’s Parole and Reentry Clinic, were recently honored at a pair of receptions. Hogan, staff attorney in the LSU Law Parole & Reentry Clinic, was awarded the “Outstanding Young Lawyer’s Award” by the National Association of Counsel for Children on July 28. Hogan is a 2013 graduate of the LSU Juvenile Clinic and has been an advocate for criminal justice reform since that time. Seven LSU Law graduates earn degrees after summer semester

Seven students from the LSU Law Center earned their degrees after completing coursework during the Summer 2017 semester. Those receiving LL.M. degrees are: Sixtine Marie Sophie Bonnard Nils Victor Langensteiner Three students earned a Juris Doctor degree and the Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law: Cherry Lynn Roberts-Matherne Chelsea Elizabeth Murfree Michael Detree Barry Two students earned only a Juris Doctor degree: Miki Kotevski Nathaniel Patrick Judge The LSU Law Center congratulates these seven graduates on their hard work.

LSU Law Trial Advocacy Program for 3L students begins Aug. 7

August 1, 2017

From cross examination to voir dire jury selection, students will role play and receive critiques from some of the nation’s leading experts in courtroom practices during the intensive three-day program held at the LSU Law Center. Participants will act as trial counsel and simulate actual trial skills under the experienced eyes of the select seminar faculty.
