The LSU Law Center Board of Advocates cordially invites you to serve as a judge for its upcoming internal advocacy competitions. Each year, these competitions provide students with the opportunity to develop their advocacy skills before professionals in the legal community. The feedback students receive from practitioner-judges is crucial to their professional development.
This semester, the Board will host two competitions for students: The Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition and the Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competition. In the interest of your safety during these unprecedented times, all competitions will be held online via Zoom. Zoom is a widely used video communications platform that allows for interactive telecommuting. While you may already have experience with Zoom in your practice, the Board of Advocates will provide an instructional video for those who have not yet been introduced to the technology.
Our Zoom competition ‘rooms’ will be accessible by a hyperlink that will be provided by the Board of Advocates prior to the competition, along with the bench brief and supporting materials for the competition. All that will be required of you will be a reliable WiFi connection and a webcam.
While online competing is a new experience, the Board is working hard to ensure that competitions will run as smoothly as ever before. With judging now conveniently located at your fingertips, we hope your participation matches our excitement for this year’s competitions.
Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition
The Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition is open to all second-year and third-year law students who will use the Federal Rules of Evidence to engage in a criminal trial in teams of two. As a judge, you would serve on a bench listening to the case, ruling on evidentiary objections, and providing feedback to the participants.

Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competition
The Robert Lee Tullis Moot Court Competition is open to all second-year law students who will write an appellate brief in a hypothetical United States Supreme Court case and argue the case to a panel of judges in teams of two. As a judge, you would serve on a bench listening to the case, asking questions, and providing feedback to the participants.

After completing the online form, you will receive a confirmation email with your responses. Please note: the Board will treat your response as a commitment to judge the selected round. If you are unable to judge a round you signed up for, please notify us ASAP so we can make other arrangements.
