The dates and subjects for the annual symposiums hosted by LSU Law’s student-edited journals have been finalized, with an examination of the American jury system and an exploration of water resources law set to take place early next year.
On Friday, Jan. 24, the Journal of Energy Law and Resources will welcome professors and scholars from across the country to discuss issues regarding water resources law. A week later, on Friday, Jan. 31, Louisiana Law Review will also bring an esteemed panel of speakers to LSU Law for conversations on the American jury’s past, present and future.
Among the issues that will be discussed at the Journal of Energy Law and Resources symposium will be changes to water resources law over the past decade, the implications of newly promulgated rules by the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, and the uncertainty presented by a lack of judicial decisions.
The Louisiana Law Review symposium will also feature legal practitioners and scholars from across the country. They’ll address issues affecting the jury and the right to a jury trial, with topics to include the history of the jury, jury selection and representation, the Sixth Amendment and non-unanimous juries, and the role of the jury as a political and cultural institution.
Both symposiums will take place in the McKernan Auditorium at the LSU Law Center. Additional details for each symposium—including how to register to attend and a full schedule of speakers—will be released in the coming months.
