Congratulations to the Law Center’s John L. Costello National Criminal Law Trial Advocacy Competition “Purple” team of Charlotte Farshian, Ryan Harris, and Angelina Valuri, who ranked as one of the top eight prosecution teams nationally at the Costello Competition, which was held February 4-7 in Fairfax, VA, just outside Washington, D.C. The Law Center’s “Gold” team of Stephen Stanford, Elizabeth Warner, and Tyler White also represented the prosecution at this past weekend’s competition. The Law Center’s Costello teams are coached by Ms. Lindsay Jarrell Blouin (’12) and Mr. Joshua Newville (’12) of the East Baton Rouge Office of the Public Defender.
The Costello Competition is generally considered the nation’s most challenging trial advocacy competition, as the competitors receive only half of the original case file, and are also presented with new physical evidence, new witnesses, and new criminal charges and jury instructions in every competition round. This dynamic design provides competitors with a realistic experience in the evolving and unexpected nature of real-life criminal trials.
Both LSU Law teams received numerous compliments from their judges on their command of the courtrooms and their mastery of the rules of evidence.
