Hayne Beatrous Caliva, a 2013 J.D. candidate, won the LSU Law Center’s first annual Energy & Mineral Law Writing Competition. Kerry Kilburn (’82) of the Kilburn Law Firm and Campanile Charities sponsored the writing competition, which was open to all 2L and 3L LSU Law students. This year’s competition required students to analyze issues relating to the applicability of prescription of nonuse when the federal government acquires property by condemnation and the former owner of the condemned property reserves a mineral servitude. A cash prize was awarded to Ms. Caliva.
