2023 Order of the Coif: Lily P. Pavy

What are your immediate career plans?

I will be working for Kean Miller at their Baton Rouge office in the Energy and Environmental Litigation group.

What are your long-term career aspirations?

I would like to become a litigator and a trial attorney.

Please tell us about the organizations and activities you participated in at LSU Law, including any awards or honors you received.

As a member of the Louisiana Law Review, I served as the Executive Senior Editor, and my comment “Mommy Issues: Louisiana’s Gap in Parental Rights for Unmarried, Same-Sex Couples” won the Vinson & Elkins Outstanding Student Casenote or Comment Award. Additionally, I received CALI awards for the highest grade in Legal Traditions and Systems, Louisiana Sale, Lease & Advanced Obligations, and Louisiana Civil Procedure I.

Please tell us about any LSU Law faculty, classes, or other experiences that were particularly impactful on your legal education.

I really enjoyed all of my classes with Professor Melissa Lonegrass, especially Successions, Donations & Trusts. Her knowledge of Louisiana law made me really appreciate and take pride in the uniqueness of our civil law system. Additionally, I loved serving as Executive Senior Editor of the Louisiana Law Review. It was amazing to see the growth of the Junior Associates’ writing skills in such a short time, and I am glad I could be apart of their processes.

What are your fondest memories from your time at LSU Law?

Hats n’ Canes was one of my favorite memories from my time at LSU Law. I loved getting to be with our whole class and celebrate together.

What advice would you give to students entering law school who aspire to become an Order of the Coif member when they graduate?

Set goals for yourself before you start law school and before each semester, and hold yourself accountable to those goals.
