The LSU Law chapter of the International Law Society recently received the Chapter Award for Best International Social Event for a two-part event coordinated with the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge. A record number of students attended, “Understanding Islamic Sharee’ah,” which addressed common misconceptions about Islam in the United States, as well as women’s rights and the rise of violent extremism. The second event was an open house hosted by the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge. Law students, professors and other members of the community were able to tour the center and participate in discussions with Islamic Center members about Islam and Islamic Law.
