Professor Keith Hall served as Co-Chair of “The Law of Fracking” two-day conference held January 23 and 24, 2019 in Denver, Colorado. Nine LSU Law School students attended, making LSU the school with the most students present.

Professors Keith Hall and Pat Martin represented LSU Law School at the Institute for Energy Law’s Annual Oil & Gas Law Conference in Houston on February 21-22, 2019.
The LSU Journal of Energy Law and Resources 2019 symposium, Decommissioning From Shore to Offshore, was held February 15, 2019 in the McKernan Auditorium at the LSU Law Center.

Professor Keith Hall spoke on the subject of implied covenants in oil and gas leases at a conference hosted by the University of Texas on March 28, 2019 in Houston.
The Liskow & Lewis Visiting Professorship in Energy Law Lecture was held on Wednesday, March 13th at 4:00 in the Robinson Courtroom. This year’s visiting professor was Monika Ehrman, Associate Professor of Law, Faculty Director, Oil & Gas, Natural Resources, and Energy Center at The University of Oklahoma’s College of Law, who spoke on the topic “Energy as a Fundamental Human Right.” A reception was held in the student lounge following Professor Ehrman’s lecture.
The 66th Mineral Law Institute was held March 14th and 15th at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Baton Rouge.

Professor Keith Hall served as a panelist that examined the issue of “Dutch Disease and the Resource Curse” at the International Oil, Gas and Mining Conference on April 10, 2019 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Professor Hall recently served on a panel that discussed coastal and land loss litigation at the LSU Center for Energy Study’s annual oil and gas symposium on April 17, 2019 in Baton Rouge.

Professor John Costonis’s article “The BP MDL and Its Aftermath: Whither OPA’s Displacement Jurisprudence?” was published in the 93 Tulane Law Review 511 (2019).
Elias Medina, a rising 3L LSU Law student, was awarded a scholarship by the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.
Professor Keith Hall represented LSU at the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators’ annual International Petroleum Summit in Houston on May 22-23, 2019.
Professor Hall spoke on the subject of Brent crude at an international petroleum scholars workshop on May 24 in Houston.
Professor Nicholas Bryner attended the 19th Institute for Natural Resources Law Teachers held May 29-31 in Missoula, Montana.

Elias Medina, a rising 3L LSU Law student, was awarded a scholarship by the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation. This is the second scholarship that he has received from a mineral law organization.
Professor Keith Hall represented LSU at the 40th Annual Energy and Mineral Law Annual Institute in Washington, D.C., as well as at the organization’s Board of Trustees meeting, June 9-11, 2019.
Professor Keith Hall and his wife hosted a dinner at their home for a delegation of South Koreans who are visiting the United States on a tour sponsored by the U.S. State Department to study natural gas issues. Professor Nicholas Bryner also attended the dinner, which was held on June 23, 2019.
Professor Hall will teach at a 2-day oil and gas symposium June 27-28 in Georgetown, Guyana.

Professor Keith Hall attended the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Annual Institute in Monterey, California, as well as the annual meeting of the Board of Trustee meeting for the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation in July 2019. An LSU Law student also attended the conference in Monterey.

On August 27, 2019, the LSU Energy Law Center held its annual orientation for students interested in earning the Energy Law & Policy Certificate.
The LSU Journal of Energy Law and Resources held an orientation on August 17 for new Junior Associates on the Journal.

Professor Frédéric G. Sourgens presented this year’s “Bringing the Rockies to the Bayou” lecture series. Prof. Sourgens spoke on the legal issues arising from the use of geoengineering to address climate change. The lecture took place at the LSU Law Center on Sept. 5 in the Robinson Courtroom. LSU Law School’s John P. Laborde Energy Law Center Advisory Council met on October 11, 2019 to plot strategies for the continuing development of the Energy Law Center.

Professor Keith Hall spoke on the subject “Single Well Spacing and Pooling” at the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation’s Advanced Landmen Special Institute on November 8 in Houston.
Andrew Melsheimer, an LSU Law alumnus and partner at the firm of Thompson & Knight in Dallas, spoke on the subject of counseling clients regarding trade sanctions on November 5 during Professor Keith Hall’s International Petroleum Transactions class.
