The John Roger Tharp Endowed Scholarship was funded solely by the individual contributions of family, friends, and colleagues in testament to his talent, extraordinary wit, and generosity of spirit. John was a graduate of the Class of 1967 and, after a year’s clerkship for Judge Lenton Sartain at the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal, he spent the remainder of his career as a partner at Taylor, Porter, Brooks & Phillips. His partners call him “a consummate litigater- a lawyer’s lawyer,” who mentored many other lawyers in the practice of law. They endowed this scholarship in the hopes that each recipient will become a “lawyer’s lawyer” in the John R. Tharp tradition.
