Suzanna Johnson
Class of 2009
LSU Law Student
Background: Spent a little less than half her life growing up overseas; received bachelor’s degree in psychology with minors in religious studies and business law from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida; member of LSU Law Ambassadors, Wex S. Malone Inns of Court, and NBLSA Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Team; Kaplan PMBR Head Representative
Why Law School: My mom told me that I had always known that I wanted to go to law school. She says it’s the one career that I stayed focused on growing up. I liked arguing with people, and I liked reading.
Why LSU Law: I knew I wanted to explore what was outside of Florida (I’d lived there for 12 plus years), so I wanted to get out on my own. My parents were raised in New Orleans, so I have family there, and LSU allowed me to be far enough to be on my own, but close enough that I had family nearby.
The Faculty: I appreciate the fact that many of the professors have an open door policy. There have been many times when I just stopped by to say hello, with no real academic questions in mind. They are very approachable and genuinely love what they do, and it shows when you talk to them.
The Curriculum: The curriculum is very demanding, especially when compared to other law schools. I have friends at other law schools and I hear them talking about their classes and the course load compared to what I do at LSU Law; there’s no comparison. Granted, part of it is due to the Civil Law requirements, but I feel as though I have a better well-rounded education that will allow me to work anywhere, including overseas.
Future Goals: My long-term goal is to become a judge in the criminal law field. Immediately following graduation, however, my goal is to return to Florida and work for the State Attorney’s Office.
Just for Fun: If a good artist comes to perform, I may go see some concerts. I like to go out to eat, see movies, shop, hang out with classmates, and just relax from the daily grind of class.
