LSU Law students to compete for Spring 2022 Flory Mock Trial championship on Feb. 7

The LSU Law community is invited to watch the final round of the Spring 2022 Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 7, at which two teams of students will face off in a full mock civil trial, presenting opening statements, examining witnesses, introducing evidence, and making closing arguments.

The final round of competition will take place in the Robinson Courtroom at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and it will also be live streamed on the LSU Law Advocacy Programs Facebook page. Masks are required for those who attend in person.

At the Flory Mock Trial finals, the team of Sammons Corbett and Seth Pohlmann will represent the plaintiff and they will compete against fellow students Danny Tran and Ryan York, who will represent the defendants. The distinguished panel of judges who will determine the winning team includes Lykisha Vaughan (’12), Managing Attorney, Southeast Louisiana Legal Services Family Law Unit; LaToya Jordan (’10), Staff Attorney, Legal Division, Louisiana Board of Ethics; and Professor Jeffrey Brooks, Preis PLC Director of Advocacy & Professional Practice, LSU Law.

Named in honor of the late LSU Law professor, the Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition is a mock trial competition open to all second-and third-year law students. A Flory Trial is held each semester, with the fall Flory trial traditionally being a criminal case and the spring Flory trial being a civil case.
