Dane S. Ciolino from the New Orleans Loyola Law School will be the featured speaker at the George & Jean Pugh Institute for Justice Seminar to be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the LSU Law Center. Ciolino will be this semester’s first Public Interest Law Lecturer at the Law Center.
Professor Ciolino will speak on the topic, “Is the Sky Falling at Orleans Parish Criminal District Court? Minimal Adequacy as Radical Reform.” The lecture is free and open to the public, and lunch will be served.
The George W. and Jean H. Pugh Institute for Justice provides support for research and educational activities that promote justice for individuals in the administration of the criminal and civil justice systems in Louisiana and elsewhere. The Institute achieves its mission in partnership with the Louisiana Law Review, sponsoring symposia that foster publication and electronic distribution of related research. The Pugh Institute was founded in 1998.
The seminar will be begin at 12:40 p.m. and will conclude at 1:40 p.m. The event will be held in Room 106 of the Law Center, located on East Campus Drive.
Professor Ciolino is the R. Christovich Distinguished Professor of Law at Loyola. He joined the Loyola Law School faculty in 1993. Ciolino is a graduate of Tulane Law School where he served as Editor in Chief of the Tulane Law Review and was inducted into Order of the Coif. After clerking with a United States District Court judge, Professor Ciolino practiced commercial and intellectual-property litigation with the New York City law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, and later with the New Orleans law firm of Stone, Pigman, Walther, Wittmann & Hutchinson. Professor Ciolino’s teaching and scholarly interests include legal ethics, intellectual-property, contracts and criminal law. In addition, he is an active participant in ethics-related activities of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board and Louisiana State Bar Association.
