Christopher Lamy

A male student stands on the steps of the LSU Law CenterChristopher Lamy served in the United States Air Force for a decade until he felt compelled to make a change. After five deployments, he wished for career that would allow him to stay at home with his family.

Unsure of where to take his unique set of skills, Lamy’s wife pushed him to take the LSAT and apply to Louisiana law schools. The only school Lamy considered: LSU Law.

Lamy knew that LSU was the right fit after his first day on campus.

“There was, and is, something special about the attitude here at the law center,” he said. “As I walked around that first day on campus, it was obvious that everyone I passed was busy and slightly stressed, but that didn’t stop them from offering a smile or a kind hello.  The friendly attitude of the students and staff made me feel like I belonged from the very beginning, and I am extremely happy with the decision I made.”

Previous to considering law as a path for himself, Lamy believed he would not be able to handle the rigors of law school, but he was sorely mistaken as he finished his first year in the top 25 percent of his class. To add to Lamey’s success, he serves as an Office of Admissions ambassador and will be tutoring for spring’s 1L Obligations class.

Although he no longer serves on the Air Force, the veteran’s dedication persists.

Lamy has devoted his time to help reinvigorate the Veteran’s Advocacy Club at the Law Center and is in the midst of introducing a Veterans’ Legal Clinic. The clinic would seek to help student veterans with paperwork and other issues.

Of course, Lamy’s education comes with financial restraints. Although his education is covered by his G.I. Bill benefits, Lamy is responsible for his two daughters, and his wife is the only working parent. Thankfully, his hard work was rewarded with the Dean’s scholarship and Sentinels of Freedom scholarship.

“I can without a doubt say that without this scholarship I would not have been able to continue my education,” he said.

Going forward, Lamy is looking for a career that will provide for his family. He hopes that this career will be something he can enjoy and is proud of. While still considering other options, he has contemplated opening up his own firm.
