LSU Law Seeking Animal Law Adjunct Professor for Spring 2018 Semester

The Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center is seeking to hire an adjunct professor to teach Animal Law, a newly-established 2-hour course, during the Spring semester of 2018. The official course description is as follows:

This survey course provides an overview of the rapidly developing field of animal law, which implicates administrative law, constitutional law, property law, criminal law, and torts. The learning objectives for the course include (1) learning the substance and principles of existing law as it addresses nonhuman animals; (2) developing a sense of the many different traditions that contribute to legal and other understandings of nonhuman animals, especially as these traditions affect conceptualization of legal protections and existing rights with which court systems and lawyers must deal; and (3) assessing future possibilities of using various legal concepts and tools, such as “rights,” “legal personhood,” and “standing,” to address the relationship between humans and other animals.

Inquiries about and applications for the position should be sent via e-mail to Prof. Randy Trahan (jrtrahan@lsu.edu), chairman of the Adjuncts Committee. Each applicant should supply a resume that highlights his or her training and experience in the teaching or practice of animal law. The deadline for submitting applications is March 31, 2017.
