Law Center Mourns Passing of Professor Emeritus Thomas Harrell

The Law Center regrets to report the passing of Professor Emeritus Thomas A. Harrell.

Professor Emeritus Thomas A. Harrell passed away on January 20, 2016. Professor Harrell was a Coif graduate of the Law Center, Class of 1951. Professor Harrell joined the Law Center and served on the faculty for twenty-three years, teaching courses in mineral rights (oil and gas), property, security devices, corporations, contracts, oil and gas taxation, law office practice, Civil Law Systems, oil and gas law seminars, and security in moveables (U.C.C. Art. 9). He held the Campanile Professorship.

In 1979, Professor Harrell was named the director of the Louisiana Mineral Law Institute. Professor Harrell’s affiliations included the Louisiana Law Institute (of which he served as Senior Officer from 1993); the Association of Henri Capitant (Vice President, Louisiana Chapter); and the Legal Committee of the Interstate Oil Compact Commission.

Services will be on Saturday, January 23 in Oakdale, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at White Oaks Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the Oakdale United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m.
