Students, Family, Friends, and Colleagues Hold First Annual “Jog for Cheney Jo”

Some 150 students, family members, friends, and colleagues gathered for the first annual, “Jog for Cheney Jo,” on Sunday, January 10, 2016.  The event was held in honor of Cheney Joseph, long-time professor and Interim Co-Dean of the LSU Law Center, who passed away on December 18, 2015. The walkers and runners followed the route taken by Cheney nearly every afternoon during his 40 years of teaching at LSU Law.  Mary Terrell Joseph (’70) and other family members joined in the run and walk on the brisk, sunny afternoon.

A group of people pose for a photo outside the front steps of the LSU Law CenterMany of Cheney’s former students attended the run and brought Natty Light beer, Cheney’s favorite beverage, to toast his commitment to his students and the school.  Runners not able to be present were encouraged to run or walk in their communities, and to tag their photos with #ajogforcheneyjo.  “We all loved and admired Cheney Joseph.  It was a fitting tribute to him from the many years of students that he loved and for whom he labored,” said Scott Sternberg (’10) one of the organizers.

Special thanks are extended to Maggie Spell LeBato (’09), Louise Hines Myers (’10), Chris Hester, (’08), Clare Sanchez (LSU Law SBA President), and the LSU Law Running Club who served as guides along the route.
