Law students Anna Brown and Kellyn Elmer each received an individual “Best Oralist” recognition during their three preliminary rounds at the annual National Environmental Moot Court Competition. Pace Law School in White Plains, New York was the setting for this year’s competition.
With over seventy teams consisting of over two hundred individual competitors from law schools across the country, the National Environmental Moot Court competition is one of the largest and most prestigious moot court events in the country, and is the most competitive of the many environmental law competitions held nationally. Competitors argue a case on behalf of not two, but three parties – typically a state government, the federal government, and a citizen environmental group. This year’s case dealt with the applicability of the Clean Water Act to intermittent bodies of water and a jurisdictional dispute between the Environmental Protection Agency and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
The National Environmental Moot Court team was coached by alumnus Micah Gautreaux of Degan, Blanchard & Nash, with assistance from Professor Jeffrey Brooks.
