Notre Dame Law School Professor Stephen Smith delivers Constitution Day lecture at LSU Law
September 23, 2021LSU Law hosted Professor Stephen Smith of the University of Notre Dame Law School for LSU’s Constitution Day lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Smith's lecture, “Criminal Procedure and the Roberts Court," was presented in the McKernan Auditorium at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center and was also livestreamed. Following his remarks, LSU Law Professor Scott Sullivan and LSU Political Science Professor Anna Gunderson provided comments, which were followed by questions from those in attendance in person and online. September 22, 2021For 31 years, Joe Macaluso (’79), a Hammond, La., native and current New Orleans resident, traveled the world throughout his legal career, from South America to Europe to the Middle East. Exploring his broad options for giving, he was impressed by the LSU Law Clinic program and its dual purpose of serving those in need of legal defense while preparing students for practice. Applications for Spring 2022 law clinics and field placements being accepted through Oct. 1
September 21, 2021Second- and third-year students have until Friday, Oct. 1 to submit their applications for Spring 2022 law clinics and field placements. The Experiential Learning Department will hold an informational meeting for interested students on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 12:40 p.m. in room 216. Spring 2022 law clinic offerings include Civil Mediation Clinic, Parole and Reentry Clinic, Prosecution Clinic (3Ls only), Juvenile Defense Clinic (3Ls preferred), and Wrongful Conviction Clinic (3Ls only). Field placement offering include Governmental Field Placement, Judicial Field Placement, and Public Interest Field Placement. LSU Law welcomes back students for fall semester, including largest class of first-year students in 10 years
September 13, 2021Prior to the start of classes on Monday, Aug. 16, more than 80 third-year students participated in the Trial Advocacy Program on Aug. 9-11, led by 50 LSU Law alumni and distinguished legal professionals from around the country. Orientation followed on Aug. 12-13 for first-year students. The Office of Career Services also hosted its Early Interview Week on Aug. 9-13, during which second-year law students had more than 300 interviews with major firms from across the state and country. Five new faculty and staff members join LSU Law
September 13, 2021LSU Law has welcomed five new faculty and staff members to the Paul M. Hebert Law Center. Professor Summer Chandler has joined the full-time law faculty and is teaching Bankruptcy and Contracts this fall. Professor Chandler has taught at the Concordia University School of Law and most recently taught as a visiting professor at the Southern University Law Center. She earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where she served as Executive Editor of the Michigan Journal of Law Reform. Karen Soniat bids farewell after 17 years at LSU Law
September 13, 2021After serving as Director of Communications and External Relations at LSU Law for the past 17 years, Karen Soniat is embarking on a new journey in her career at The National World War II Museum in New Orleans. “Karen really put the ‘relations’ back in alumni relations for our institution during her time here. 21 LSU Law students nominated to Wex Malone Inn of Court
September 10, 202121 LSU Law students have been nominated for membership in the Wex Malone Inn of Court, a prestigious chapter of local lawyers dedicated to improving civility, ethics, and professionalism among the bench and the bar. Students were assessed during their performance in LSU Law’s annual Trial Advocacy Program, and faculty advisors were then able to nominate a limited number of students whom they saw fit for this honor.
