PILS Lends Efforts to “Stand Down for Homeless Veterans in Baton Rouge”
June 19, 2015Gabrielle “Gabby” Alessi-Friedlander-Bowersox (’16) knew when she began at LSU Law that she wanted to put her skills as a former caseworker for homeless veterans to use. As Pro Bono Chair of the Law Center’s Public Interest Law Society (PILS), Gabby and fellow law students, with the assistance of Associate Vice Chancellor Beth Williams and Professor John Devlin, collaborated with the Capital Area Alliance for the Homeless, Volunteers of America and the Veterans Administration to develop Stand Down for Homeless Veterans in Baton Rouge that was held June 13 at the One Stop Homeless Services Center. “Our veterans have selflessly…

International Law Society Receives Chapter Award for Best International Social Event
June 19, 2015The LSU Law chapter of the International Law Society recently received the Chapter Award for Best International Social Event for a two-part event coordinated with the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge. A record number of students attended, “Understanding Islamic Sharee’ah,” which addressed common misconceptions about Islam in the United States, as well as women’s rights and the rise of violent extremism. The second event was an open house hosted by the Islamic Center of Baton Rouge. LSU Law Center Announces 2015 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and Distinguished Achievement Honorees
June 18, 2015On Sunday, October 11, the LSU Law Center will honor Edward J. Walters, Jr. as the 2015 LSU Law Center Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and Jeffrey K. Coreil, Jennifer A. Jones, Edwin G. Preis, Jr., Kimberly L. Robinson and Dean A. Sutherland for Distinguished Achievement at an awards luncheon at the Lod Cook Conference Center in Baton Rouge. June 8, 2015When Tom More Phillips first stepped into the LSU Law Center in 1949, he wasn’t just beginning his classes. He was beginning his legacy—a legacy that continues today through the establishment of the Tom Fore Phillips National Moot Court Team endowment at the LSU Law Center. Phillips’ dedication to the moot court program began his senior year of law school when he and his teammates won the Law Center’s prestigious moot court trial competition. LSU Law Students Receive Academic Honors for Spring 2015 Semester
June 2, 2015LSU Law Center Chancellor and Dean Jack M. Weiss has announced the names of those law students who earned academic honors for the spring 2015 semester. Over 50 students have been recognized as Hebert Scholars and over 80 students have been recognized as Chancellor’s Scholars.
