Hispanic Law Students Association represents LSU Law at National Latina/o Law School Association National Conference

Just before the United States was upended by the coronavirus public health emergency, two officers from the Hispanic Law Students Association represented LSU Law at the National Latina/o Law School Association National Conference in San Francisco on March 5-7. Board of Advocates elects Executive Board members for 2020-21

Executive Board members of the 2020-21 Board of Advocates have been elected. The Board of Advocates is a student honor organization dedicated to the promotion and development of oral and written persuasive advocacy skills. Rising third-year law students are selected to membership on the Board of Advocates based on a holistic application that looks at a student’s success in LSU Law’s many different internal and external advocacy opportunities. LSU Law Women Law Students Association named 2020 Law School Chapter of the Year by Ms. JD

The Women Law Students Association at LSU Law has been named the 2020 Law School Chapter of the Year by Ms. JD, a nonprofit organization that promotes women in the legal profession. The award is given annually to a law school organization that “champions the advancement of women law students through, for example, chapter initiatives (including pre-law initiatives), programming or recruitment.” In honoring WLSA with the award, Ms. JD praises the student organization as “a diverse and involved group of women with one important thing in common: a burning desire to make a positive impact on the women in the…

LSU Law Admiralty Moot Court team wins Most Outstanding Law School award

The top-seeded team from Duke University School of Law that bested the LSU Law team of Bayhi, Maldonado and Zeringue in the semifinals went on to win the overall championship. LSU Law team member Day was ranked as the seventh-best oral advocate in the competition. The LSU Law team is coached by Adjunct Professor Dean Sutherland (LSU Law ’75), of counsel at Jeansonne and Remondet LLC; and Phillip Smith (’16), an associate attorney at NeunerPate. LSU Law alumni who are Louisiana public defenders and prosecutors can apply for student loan repayment program through April 30

April 1, 2020

The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA), a program of the Louisiana Board of Regents, is accepting applications for the John R. Justice Student Loan Repayment Program through April 30. Only state public defenders and prosecutors who are employed by the state of Louisiana and agree to remain in their current position for at least three years may qualify to have their educational loans (both Federal Family Education Loan Program and Williams D. Ford Direct Loans) repaid through the program. The program is not open to law clerks or attorneys working for nonprofit organizations. Last year, not all of…
