LSU Family Law Clinic Benefits Students and the Community
February 27, 2014Third-year LSU Law student Porche Saulsberry “wanted to get out of the classroom and into the courtroom.” She found the perfect fit as a student in the Family Law Clinic where students represent indigent victims of domestic violence in protective order and other family law proceedings. The Family Law Clinic, one of six clinics in the LSU Law Clinical Program, provides students, under close faculty supervision, the opportunity to represent actual clients with real legal issues before various courts and administrative agencies.

Symposium to Address Historic Freedom of the Press Case and Impact on Government Politics and the Civil Rights Movement
February 24, 2014The LSU Law Center will co-sponsor the LSU Manship School Reilly Center for Media & Public Affair’s 2014 John Breaux Symposium on March 5 and 6. This year’s Symposium marks the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in New York Times v. Sullivan. Legal and academic experts will discuss the impact the decision had on media coverage of government and politics.

LSU Law to Offer Free Tax Assistance to Foreign Students, Teachers and Researchers
February 18, 2014The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center offers a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program where law student volunteers provide free tax preparation services for federal and state income taxes to foreign students, teachers and researchers that qualify as non-resident taxpayers. Individuals who have F, J, M, or Q visas are eligible for assistance.

Stutes-Kalinka Tax Moot Court Team Wins Third Place at National Tax Competition
February 13, 2014The LSU Law Center’s Stutes-Kalinka National Taxation Moot Court Competition team of Jena Kyle, Taheera Randolph, and Colin Ryan, recently took third place at the National Taxation Moot Court Competition. The Tax Competition, sponsored by the Tax Section of the Florida Bar Association, brings in leading tax practitioners and judges from the United States Tax Court as the competition judges. The Stutes-Kalinka Tax Team faced teams from the University of Kentucky College of Law, William Mitchell College of Law, Loyola University Chicago School of Law, University of Oregon School of Law, and Suffolk University Law School. LSU Law Clinic Parole and Prisoner Re-entry Clinic Students Sworn In to Practice Law
February 7, 2014Students enrolled in the LSU Law Parole and Prisoner Re-Entry Clinic were sworn in by Chief Judge Brian A. Jackson of the United States District Court of the Middle District of Louisiana on February 5, 2014. The students are certified to practice law pursuant to Louisiana Supreme Court Rule XX and will represent clients before the Louisiana Board of Pardon and Parole. Pictured are James Farris, Jeffery Harper, Claire Murray, Christopher Iwobi, Kimberly Sheppard, Clare Svendson, Maggie Webster, and Emily Dixon.
