Global Workplace Conference at Forefront of Labor and Employment Law
February 21, 2008International and comparative workplace law was the focus of a dynamic videoconference held on February 15 & 16, 2008 in collaboration with the LSU Law Center, Seton Hall University School of Law, and Thomas Jefferson School of Law. The event featured internationally recognized speakers on the topic of Expanding Intellectual Borders with International and Comparative Workplace Law. This was the first conference in the United States aimed at instructing law professors about global workplace law and its place in the curriculum of law schools, according to the conference organizers. LSU and Southern Join Together for Presidents' Day 2008 Celebration
February 21, 2008Some 200 students, faculty and staff from LSU Law and Southern University Law School joined together for a Presidents' Day Celebration on February 18. The event, held on the LSU Law campus, was sponsored by the Student Bar Association and the LSU/SU chapters of the Federalist Society. "We had a huge turnout," said Catherine Jenkins Wheeler, LSU Law student coordinator of the event. "We probably had close to 200 people there...I had a feeling we would have a lot of people." Organizers say they plan to make the event an annual collaborative project with the two law schools.

Sister Helen Prejean Speaks on Death Penalty
February 19, 2008Sister Helen Prejean, internationally acclaimed author, spoke to a standing room only audience on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the LSU Law Center. Her talk, titled Actual Innocence and the Death Penalty was "the most absorbing, insightful presentation I've heard in many, many years," said Professor Lucy McGough, director of the Pugh Institute for Justice. The lecture was sponsored by The George W. and Jean H. Pugh Institute for Justice and the LSU Law Public Interest Law Society (PILS). LSU Law Center Wins First Place at National Tax Moot Court Competition
February 14, 2008LSU students participated in three separate events the weekend of February 8-10, 2008 with great success winning the National Championship in the Tax Moot Court Competition. The competitions each had a distinct focus: appellate advocacy, international arbitration, and trial advocacy. Erin Bray, David Conachen, and Adam Savoie represented the Law Center in St. Petersburg, Florida where they won the National Championship. Jeff Keiser, Andrew Lilly, Sara Taylor, and Shaundra Westerhoff participated in the 2nd Annual Willem C. LSU Law Advances to Final Rounds of National Moot Court Competition
February 7, 2008The LSU Law Center team of David Geerken (3L), Jon Forester (2L), and Jonathan Ringo (2L) participated in the Final Rounds of the 58th Annual National Moot Court Competition in New York City on January 28-31, 2008. LSU Law was one of only 28 schools who advanced to the Final Rounds, a competition that began with 189 teams. This placed LSU Law in the top 15 percent of all law schools who entered the National Moot Court Competition - the oldest and largest Moot Court competition in the nation. Professor John Devlin and Laranda Moffett (L ’07) advised the students.
