LSU Law Dean Tom Galligan appointed LSU interim president
December 18, 2019Tom Galligan, dean of LSU Law and former president of Colby-Sawyer College, has been appointed LSU interim president while the LSU Board of Supervisors conducts a national search to replace F. King Alexander, who has been named the next president of Oregon State University. LSU Law bids fond farewell to two of its longest-serving professors

Chancellor Emeritus John Costonis reflects on LSU Law tenure as he enters retirement
December 3, 2019In 2007, Costonis became Chancellor Emeritus and Judge Albert Tate and Rosemary Neal Hawkland Professor of Law in 2007. He taught courses in environmental law, historic preservation, land use law, law of the Louisiana coast, property, federal public land, and resources law until his retirement on June 30. Among the many accolades and awards he has received throughout his career, Costonis was presented the H.M. “Hub” Cotton Award for Faculty Excellence in 2018. Professor Paul Baier gets surprise send-off at final class after 47 years at LSU Law
December 2, 2019The students in Professor Paul Baier’s final class were ready with a cake to surprise the professor with and celebrate his upcoming retirement, after 47 years at LSU Law and time at University of Michigan Law School and Tennessee College of Law prior to his arrival in Baton Rouge. What the students hadn’t anticipated was a Harvard tradition that momentarily postponed the surprise. As the end of class was drawing near and a video that Baier was showing it concluded, the professor—a 1969 Harvard Law School graduate—simply stood up, announced “class dismissed” and walked out of the classroom.
