LSU Energy Law Center to Be Named in Honor of John P. Laborde (’49)

October 26, 2012

The LSU Board of Supervisors today approved naming of the Energy Law Center of the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center in honor of John P. Laborde, LSU Law Class of 1949. The newly established academic and research center henceforth will be known as the “LSU John P. Laborde Energy Law Center” in recognition of Mr. Laborde’s commitment to the Center and the school.

The LSU Law Center honored W. Henson Moore III as the 2012 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year and the Honorable Elizabeth Foote, Honorable Bonnie Foster Jackson, C. Kris Kirkpatrick, William Morrison Meyers and R. Patrick Vance for Distinguished Achievement at an awards brunch on Saturday, October 20 at Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, Louisiana.

From Shreveport to the Supreme Court

Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! Two LSU Law alumni are set to argue before the Supreme Court of the United States in November. “We are not ‘high building lawyers,’” said Attorney Patricia Gilley. Mrs. Gilley describes her firm as a “Mom and Pop” shop. She and her husband of forty years, Harold Gilley, graduated from LSU Law in 1977. This husband and wife team now operates a family-run firm, Gilley & Gilley, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Louisiana State Bar Exam Results Released

LSU Law Center students achieved the second highest passage rate among all examinees on the latest Louisiana State Bar Exam, according to results released October 12, 2012 by the Committee on Bar Admissions of the Supreme Court of Louisiana.
