LSU Law School was prominently represented at the Institute for Energy Law Annual Oil & Gas Conference in Houston on Feb. 20 and 21. LSU Law students Taylor B. Ashworth, Destiny Manning and Shawn Waldron attended, as did LSU Professor Keith Hall and Professor Emeritus Patrick H. Martin. Numerous lawyers who are graduates of LSU Law School also attended.
The conference attracted more than 400 participants from around the country, with many of the participants being lawyers who have significant experience in the oil and gas industry. This made the conference an excellent place for LSU’s students to network, according to Professor Hall, who serves as Director of LSU’s John P. Laborde Energy Law Center.
“I benefit tremendously from the contacts I make and the relationships I build at conferences like this,” he says, “and my goal is to help our students start making similar contacts. I am very grateful to the donors to our Energy Law Center, who help make it possible for us to bring students to this conference and others like it.”
The two-day conference included presentations on topics relating to oil and gas litigation, transactions and regulation, as well as public policy issues relating to energy.
“Although networking opportunities are the most important reason to bring our students to these conferences, the presentations are excellent,” says Hall, “so the conference is also a great place for our students to learn about energy law and business.”
