A Tradition of Excellence: The Campaign for LSU Law is in full gear!
In addition to events held in past months in Covington, Houma, Lake Charles, Monroe, Shreveport, and Washington, D.C., Baton Rouge areas alums gathered on Monday, December 10 to meet Chancellor Jack Weiss and to kick off the campaign in the metro region.
Chancellor Weiss, together with campaign steering committees located in Louisiana and Texas, are spearheading the $28 million Campaign for LSU Law. A significant portion of the goal, some $15 million, is for scholarship funds to aid in student recruitment and to relieve financial debt.
Over $9.4 million has been raised toward the goal, according to Campaign Chair Shelby McKenzie (’64). “Your fellow alumni will be asking you to consider what your legal education has allowed you to achieve and to give back in a substantial way,” said McKenzie.
Chancellor Weiss has established several new initiatives that are critical to the future of Law Center: implementing a program of clinical legal education that is worthy of LSU Law; strengthening our world-class faculty; and, encouraging Louisiana’s finest students to enroll in Louisiana’s finest law school by offering significant scholarship aid.
New endowed professorships and scholarship gifts since the November issue of E On the Move include:
The Holt B. Harrison (‘61) Endowed Professorship – an additional gift to double his existing endowed professorship established several years ago at the Law Center.
The Thelma L. Bougere Endowed Scholarship – a $30,000 endowed scholarship gift from the estate of Ms. Bougere and directed to the Law Center by New Orleans steering committee member John Busenlener (‘75 ). The gift will be matched with $20,000 from the Judge Paul B. Landry Matching Scholarship program.
The Class of 1967 Endowed Scholarship – a $60,000 gift in recognition of their 40th class reunion held this fall.
