The Young Alumni Leadership Council, a newly-appointed group of LSU Law graduates, had its first meeting the weekend of December 7. Chancellor Weiss formed the group to secure a more broad range of feedback on ways in which the Law Center can be responsive in preparing students for the ever-changing practice of law.
Eighteen of 20 members met for dinner on Friday evening. Kimberly Robinson, who is counsel to Governor Blanco, shared a fascinating, first-hand account of the realities of working with the federal government in the days and months following Katrina.
On Saturday, members heard from Professors Pietruszkiewicz and McGough regarding changes in the demographics of law school applicants and plans for clinical legal education, respectively. Irina Fox, one of the founders of our new International Law Society, unveiled the Society’s plans for promoting the international applicability of the study of civil law.
John Spain, executive vice president of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, gave members a first look at an exciting new campaign for south Louisiana, which is more than public relations. Focused on the I-10/12 corridor, “To bring energy to life” is directed outward and inward, with a message that both heralds and supports economic development.
The Council returns to campus in the spring. Members have been in practice for 10 or fewer years.
