Two men and two women wearing suits pose for a photo with the American Bar Associaion logo on a wooden wall in the backgroundCongratulations to the Law Center’s American Bar Association Competition team of Robert Cavell, Caitlin Cline, Rome Gonsoulin, and Matthew Roth, who placed fifth in the nation at the Arbitration Competition’s national championships, which were held Jan. 20-23, 2016, at the American Bar Association’s headquarters in Chicago, IL.

Over forty law schools originally participated in this year’s Arbitration Competition’s four regional rounds; the Law Center’s team advanced to the national championships based on their exceptional performance in the regional rounds held at Emory Law School in November 2015. The Law Center’s ABA Arbitration Competition team is coached by Dr. James Carver (’89) of The Carver Law Firm.

The ABA Law Student Division Arbitration Competition promotes greater knowledge in arbitration by simulating a realistic arbitration hearing. Participants prepare and present an arbitration case, including opening statements, witness examinations, exhibit introductions, evidentiary presentations, and summations of law and damages to panels of experienced attorney arbitrators. This year’s case file involved a contractual dispute between a startup company and an internet security provider.
