Congratulation to Andrew Baer, Zachary Ferguson, Michael Laborde, and Linda Matta, members of the LSU Law Center’s ABA Arbitration Competition Team, who took first place at the November 2012 regional rounds of the Arbitration Competition.  In January, the team will travel to Chicago to compete in the national championship of the Arbitration Competition.  A second LSU Law team, consisting of Leigh Hill, Lalla Morris, John Richards, and David Schroeter, advanced to the semifinals (Top 4) of the regional competition.  LSU Law alumnus James Carver (’89) coaches the ABA Arbitration teams.

One of four practical skills competitions sponsored by the American Bar Association, the Arbitration Competition promotes greater knowledge of alternative dispute resolution by simulating a realistic arbitration hearing. Participants prepare and present an arbitration case, including opening statements, witness examinations, exhibit introductions, evidentiary presentations, and summations to a panel of experienced arbitrators.  This year’s case file dealt with a medical malpractice dispute.
