Order of the Coif: Jacob H. Bryant

What are your immediate career plans?

After passing the bar exam, I will be joining Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in the firm’s Houston office.

What are your long-term career aspirations?

I hope to grow my skills as a corporate attorney and be involved in my community.

Please tell us about the organizations and activities you participated in at LSU Law, including any awards or honors you received.

I was a Senior Articles Editor for Volume XI of the Journal of Energy Law and Resources, and I had the privilege of putting together our annual symposium. I received several CALI awards as well as Paul M. Hebert Scholar awards. I also received The Corporate and Business Law Excellence Annual Award and the Liskow & Lewis Award.

Please tell us about any LSU Law faculty, classes, or other experiences that were particularly impactful on your legal education.

I will always remember the faculty that I had during my time here and thank them for all they do for their students. I am especially grateful to have had Professor Bill Corbett and Professor Susan Tanner. I had both professors my very first semester and they shaped the way I learn the law. They both care deeply about their students and pushed me to work hard.

What are your fondest memories from your time at LSU Law?

In all the chaos of going through law school, it’s truly amazing how many incredible people you get to meet and make lifelong connections with.

What advice would you give to students entering law school who aspire to become an Order of the Coif member when they graduate?

As my wife always said, “The easiest way to pass is to go to class.” It’s important to work hard during your time here and treat this like a normal job. Having a strict study plan and managing your time well will not only help your grades but also your mental health. Never sacrifice sleep to study.
