University of Texas at Austin School of Law Professor and Distinguished Oil and Gas Scholar Owen L. Anderson.
Owen L. Anderson, a Professor and Distinguished Oil and Gas Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law, will discuss “Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage: Can it Save the Planet?” at LSU Law on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the 2022 Liskow & Lewis Visiting Professor in Energy Law Lecture.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 5 p.m. in the Robinson Courtroom on the second floor of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center (1 E. Campus Dr., Baton Rouge). Parking will be available onsite, and a reception will follow the lecture, which is expected to last approximately one hour. Attendees can earn one CLE credit hour. There is no online option to participate. The Liskow & Lewis Visiting Professor in Energy Law Lecture is presented by LSU Law and the LSU Law John P. Laborde Energy Law Center.

He is an amazing scholar who has done some very important work in this area, and now that I know him personally, I can also say that he is a wonderful person, too,” said LSU Law Professor and John P. Laborde Energy Law Center Director Keith Hall. “Carbon capture and storage is an extremely timely and important topic—especially here in Louisiana—and we are very excited to welcome Professor Anderson to LSU Law for what promises to be a very informative and engaging lecture.”
Anderson has taught various subjects in the field of oil and gas law since 1979 and has authored over 100 scholarly articles. He frequently lectures at universities and industry conferences throughout the U.S. and internationally, and he is a past recipient of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation Clyde O. Martz Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Prior to joining the University of Texas School of Law faculty, Anderson was a professor at the University of Oklahoma (OU) College of Law from 1992 through 2015, and he currently holds the title of Professor Emeritus at OU. In 1993, he established the Kuntz Conference, which has since grown to be the largest oil and gas law conference in the nation. In 2012, he was named a George Lynn Cross Research Professor, the highest honor OU bestows on a professor in recognition of their scholarship. In 2015, Anderson was honored with the prestigious Eugene Kuntz Award, which is named in honor of renowned oil and gas professor and former OU College of Law Dean Eugene Kuntz.
Anderson currently serves as editor in chief of Texas Title Standards, and from 1987 to 2017 he served as editor of the Oil and Gas Reporter. Among his publications, he is co-author of International Petroleum Law and Transactions, Hemingway Oil and Gas Law and Taxation, Cases and Materials on Oil & Gas Law, and A Student’s Guide to Estates in Land and Future Interests. He serves on the Academic Advisory Board of the Institute for Energy Law, as Faculty Adviser to the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas and Energy Law, as an Editorial Advisory Board member of the Oil and Gas, Natural Resources, and Energy Law Journal (ONE J), and he was a charter member of the Executive Committee of the Journal of World Energy Law and Business.
A member of the Texas, Oklahoma, and North Dakota bars, Anderson is also an arbitrator and consultant on oil and gas law and policy. He is a lifetime member of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, a member of the American Law Institute, an honorary lifetime trustee of the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law, and a trustee of the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation.
The Liskow & Lewis Visiting Professor in Energy Law Lecture was established in 2013 through an endowed gift from the Liskow & Lewis law firm. The professorship provides funds to bring distinguished scholars in energy law and closely related fields to LSU Law on an annual basis as part of the LSU John P. Laborde Energy Law Center. The law firm also made an endowed gift to create the Liskow and Lewis Professorship of Law in 1995, and the firm annually supports a large scholarship, The Liskow & Lewis Annual Scholarship.
Established in 2012 as an academic center for comprehensive instruction and research in energy law, the LSU Law John P. Laborde Energy Law Center is the first such center of its kind in Louisiana and one of the just a handful at U.S. law schools. The center prepares lawyers to address the full range of 21st century issues in the complex energy sector and to assume leadership roles in industry, government, and the academy.
