Registration is now open for the inaugural LSU Law Veteran’s Day 5k, which will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the LSU Golf Course. Public registration is $40, while members of the military and college students can participate for $25.
Register to participate in the LSU Law Veterans 5k.
Proceeds from the race will fund a non-endowed scholarship at the LSU Law Center for which veterans, their dependents, dependents of active-duty service members, and Gold Star family members enrolled at LSU Law may apply.
Participants can run or walk the 5k and the course will include a path for anyone who chooses to “ruck” the race, which is the military and civilian exercise of walking long distances with a weighted backpack to build strength and endurance.
“This race has been in the works for a while, and I hope it shines a light on the impact our military community has on Louisiana,” said Chad Granger, a third-year law student at LSU Law and officer of the LSU Law Veterans Advocacy Club (VAC) student organization. “As a veteran and lifelong Louisianian, I’m proud to be part of LSU Law and the Veterans Advocacy Club, working to celebrate our heroes and create more opportunities for them to succeed here at home.”
After the event, everyone is welcome to meet with representatives from various military branches and learn more about the resources available to Louisiana’s veterans. Veterans Affairs accredited services officers and organizations will also be on site for all veterans, military, and their dependents who need assistance.
The LSU Law VAC is one of roughly 30 student organizations at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, and its mission is to provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and law school. LSU Law is partnering with the student organization to present the Veterans Day 5k.
“It is a privilege to have LSU Law support our efforts to raise awareness of the more than 250,000 veterans in Louisiana,” said LSU Law VAC President Nicholas Hundley. “With institutional and community support, we can expand our outreach through events like the Veterans Day 5K and foster everlasting relationships within this respected community.”
