Associate Dean Caprice Roberts named Interim LSU Law Dean

Caprice Roberts, LSU Law Associate Dean of Faculty Development & Research and J.Y. Sanders Professor of Law, was named the Interim Dean of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center by LSU this morning.

“Our greatest strength is the community’s collective commitment to the success of LSU Law and all its students,” Roberts said. “I am grateful and honored to serve during this important time for the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center.”

Roberts has over two decades of legal experience, including law school teaching and administration, federal judicial clerkships, and government enforcement litigation, and currently serves as Deputy Executive Director of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS). She began her academic career at West Virginia University College of Law, where she earned tenure, rose to full professor, and eventually served as Associate Dean of Faculty Research & Development. She later contributed as a founding faculty member at Savannah Law School and has since taught at a range of institutions before joining the LSU Law faculty.

Her teaching and scholarship span constitutional law, remedies, and federal courts, and she recently served as Special Attorney to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee. Her work in the field of remedies has had national influence, with citations by the U.S. Supreme Court to both her law review articles and her leading treatise.

Roberts received her J.D. magna cum laude from Washington & Lee University, where she was lead articles editor of the law review board and named to the Order of the Coif. She will serve in an interim capacity until a national search has been conducted for a permanent dean.
