LSU Law has conferred degrees to 203 students who graduated as members of the Class of 2025.
Among the graduates, 154 earned a Juris Doctor and optional Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law (JDCL), while 34 earned a Juris Doctor (JD), and 15 earned a Master of Laws (LLM). Twenty-five graduates also earned an optional Graduate Certificate in Estate Planning and Taxation (GCEPT), and 10 earned an optional Graduate Certificate in Energy Law and Policy (GCELP).
The LSU Law Class of 2025 represents 21 states, seven foreign countries, one U.S. territory, and 28 Louisiana parishes.
LSU Law held commencement exercises for the Class of 2025 on Friday, May 16, in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on the LSU campus. The Hon. Piper Griffin of the Louisiana Supreme Court, a member of the LSU Law Class of 1987, delivered the commencement address.
LSU Law Dean Alena M. Allen welcomed guests and presented the annual faculty and staff awards, which were voted on by the graduating class.
Professor Tom Galligan was recognized as Professor of the Year and participated in the ceremonial hooding of the graduates, along with Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Jake Henry. The Hon. Guy Holdridge (ret.), a member of the LSU Law Class of 1978, was recognized as Adjunct Professor of the Year. Norma Marsh, Coordinator of Academic Area II and Energy Law Coordinator, received the Staff Member of the Year award.
Allen also acknowledged and thanked Professor Lee Ann Wheelis Lockridge, who is retiring after 20 years at LSU Law. Lockridge served as interim dean for more than three years prior to the start of Allen’s tenure on July 1, 2023.
Honorary guests included LSU Board of Supervisors members Rémy Starns and Roderick “Rico” Alvendia as well as U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who is a member of the LSU Law Class of 1998.
LSU Law Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs Andrea Carroll read the roll of graduates. 2024-25 Student Bar Association Executive President Juston Benton Alford Jr. delivered the student welcome and 2024-25 3L Class President Julia Grace Montgomery provided the class farewell. Class of 2025 graduate Hannah Johnson Cathey sang the Star-Spangled Banner to open the commencement exercises.
