Third-year LSU Law students Taylor Guice and Rini Mannankara bested classmates Daniel Harry and Grant Murphy to win the Fall 2024 Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition, which took place Monday evening, Sept. 23, in the Robinson Courtroom at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.

The students presented their cases—Guice and Mannankara on behalf of the defendants, and Harry and Murphy representing the prosecution—before a panel of distinguished judges from the Louisiana 21st Judicial District Court that included Brian K. Abels (’97), Charlotte H. Foster, and Erika W. Sledge (’06).

Named in honor of the late LSU Law professor, the Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition is open to all second-and third-year law students. A Flory Trial is held each semester, with the fall Flory trial traditionally being a criminal case and the spring Flory trial being a civil case. In each competition, students present opening statements, examine witnesses, introduce and use pieces of evidence, and present closing arguments.

In the final round of Fall 2024 competition, students argued the case of State of Louisiana vs. Jonah Ryan. In this case, the state alleges that defendant Jonah Ryan committed an assault by drive-by shooting.
