LSU Law Professor Nikolaos Davrados accepts the 2023-24 Professor of the Year award from Dean Alena Allen at the Class of 2024 Commencement on Saturday, May 18.

In just his first year on the LSU Law faculty, Professor Nikolaos Davrados has been voted 2024 LSU Law Professor of the Year by the students of the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.

“I am so very honored and humbled,” said Davrados, who came to LSU Law from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where he was named Professor of the Year four times in the nearly ten years he was on the faculty. “It is such a privilege to teach bright legal minds and help shape the next generation of lawyers, judges, and leaders of our community. But his award is not mine alone. It represents the collaborative efforts of faculty, staff, and students who make our law school a special place.”

Holding the Curry Family Professorship, Davrados specializes in civil law, comparative law, conflict of laws, legal traditions, and international business transactions in both the United States and Europe. He also serves as Assistant Director of the Center of Civil Law Studies and International Programs.

Davrados holds law degrees from Oxford University and the University of Athens, where he obtained his Ph.D. in law and graduated summa cum laude. After completing his postdoctoral research at the University of Texas School of Law, he practiced in international business transactions and arbitration and served as a legal advisor to the Council of the European Union. He then began his academic career as a teaching fellow in law at the University of Athens School of Law and was later an assistant professor of law at the University of Nicosia (Cyprus) School of Law, where he continues to serve as visiting professor.

Davrados serves as an advisory board member of the Journal of Civil Law Studies with the LSU Center of Civil Law Studies. He also serves on the council of the Louisiana State Law Institute as well as several of its committees and is a member of the editorial board of the peer-reviewed law journals Hellenic Review of International Law and Civil Procedure Law Review.

As the LSU Law Class of 2024 members begin to launch their legal careers, Davrados shared this message of encouragement: “Your journey of becoming a lawyer already started when you joined LSU Law. Now, you’re taking the next big step. Approach each day with an open mind, integrity, compassion, and a commitment to justice. Never stop learning. The law is constantly evolving and so must you. Finally, always do what is right, not what is easy. Your ethics and moral compass should guide you to make a positive difference. Congratulations, Class of 2024!”
