Your Gifts at Work: Morgan Pilcher

Greensboro, North Carolina, native and rising third-year law student Morgan Pilcher decided to pursue her law degree at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center because she knew a comprehensive education in civil and common law would best prepare her to one day practice outside the United States.

“I chose LSU Law because of the unique legal education offered, which I cannot get from any other law school in the country,” she said. “I know that the civil law education I receive from LSU Law will give me a firm foundation to achieve my aspirations of practicing internationally.”

LSU Law also provided Pilcher with the unique opportunity to study abroad at the with Université Jean Moulin-Lyon III in France as part of its Summer in Lyon Program. She jumped at the chance and had such an incredible experience during her six weeks in Lyon last summer that she decided to make a return visit during the past winter break.

“My summer in Lyon has definitely been the highlight of my time at LSU Law thus far,” she said. “I took interesting courses in the subjects of international criminal systems, comparative civil procedure, and even a course on the law of wine. Living in Lyon for six weeks was such a cool experience and I travelled extensively on the weekends to other parts of Europe.”

With a special interest in the dynamic nature of comparative law, the intersection of diverse legal systems and customs, and the complexities involved in addressing global issues, Pilcher said her experiences abroad have only further fueled her ambition to pursue international law after earning her law degree next spring.

This past academic year, Pilcher served as a junior associate for Volume 84 of Louisiana Law Review and as an academic tutor for Professor Tracy Norton’s legal research and writing class for first-year law students.

As a recipient of the Ryan LoProto Memorial Scholarship, Pilcher said she is incredibly grateful that LSU Law alumni and friends have generously made gifts in support of her dream of practicing law on the international stage.

“It is through their donations, and donors like them, that so many students from a variety of backgrounds are assisted throughout their law school experiences,” she said. “Their generosity is inspiring, and I hope that one day I can also give back to LSU Law.”
