Each Wednesday morning, members of the LSU Law Christian Legal Society begin their day at the Paul M. Heber Law Center by gathering for Bible study, offering students a moment of prayer to help alleviate the stresses of law school and start their day on a peaceful note.

“Our Bible study attendance has been steadily growing each semester, and I hope it continues to grow in the future,” said CLS President Caleb O’Connell, a third-year law student.

For more than 25 years, the Christian Legal Society has provided a forum for LSU Law students to discuss legal issues and faith from a biblical perspective, grow in fellowship with other believers, and participate in compassionate service.

In addition to their weekly Bible studies, CLS hosts about two events for the LSU Law community each year. In the fall, the club hosted its second annual picnic in conjunction with Southern University Law Center’s Christians at Law Society. In the spring, CLS organized a worship night on the LSU campus.

“Our primary goal includes bearing witness to Christ and living out our Christian faith in all aspects of our lives, including our careers,” O’Connell said. “We also aim to provide fellowship and support for both Christian and non-Christian students at LSU Law.”

O’Connell said he and the CLS executive officers meet each Friday for a weekly check-in to discuss club activities and bond as friends.

“I’m not from Baton Rouge so when I moved here, I had trouble finding a church I fit into,” the Evangeline, Louisiana, native said. “Getting involved in CLS as a 1L gave me a community to connect with both within and outside of the Law Center, and I’ve made so many incredible friends.”

To get involved with the student organization, O’Connell said prospective members can attend CLS events or reach out to an executive officer with any questions.
