2023 Order of the Coif: Blake G. Vick

What are your immediate career plans?

After taking the Texas Bar Exam in late July, I will return to Texas after seven years in Baton Rouge to begin my career as a transactional attorney with a firm in downtown Houston.

What are your long-term career aspirations?

I hope to have a long, successful, and impactful career in transactional law. Along the way, I hope to assist LSU Law students in the same way that members of our great alumni network have assisted and positively impacted me during my time as a student.

Please tell us about the organizations and activities you participated in at LSU Law, including any awards or honors you received.

During my time at LSU Law, I participated in the following activities and earned the following honors:

  • Louisiana Law Review, Fall 2021-Spring 2023
  • 2022/2023 Board of Advocates
  • Academic Tutor to Professor Heidi Thompson (Legal Research & Writing), Fall 2021-Spring 2023
  • Paul M. Hebert Scholar Award, four times
  • Dean’s Scholar Award, two times
  • Finalist, Fall 2021 Robert L. Tullis Moot Court Competition

Please tell us about any LSU Law faculty, classes, or other experiences that were particularly impactful on your legal education.

I cannot say enough about the impacts Melanie Anderson and Professors Heidi Thompson and Darlene Goring had on my academic, professional, and personal development over these past three years. Also, I particularly enjoyed taking classes instructed by Professors Christina Sautter and Keith Hall, each of whom are highly knowledgeable in their respective fields of expertise and eager to help students in both their academic and professional capacities.

What are your fondest memories from your time at LSU Law?

Undoubtedly, my fondest memory of my time at LSU Law is seeing how proud my family members were when my classmates and I graduated in May. Seeing my parents, brothers, extended family members, and friends in the PMAC stands and sharing in the excitement with each of them after the graduation ceremony truly put into perspective the countless hours of hard work and the difficult moments each of them helped me through during my time at LSU Law.

What advice would you give to students entering law school who aspire to become an Order of the Coif member when they graduate?

Work hard, stay true to yourself, and don’t forget to have some fun every now and then—everything else will work itself out.
