2023 Order of the Barristers: Chad Thornton

What are your immediate career plans?

I am going to work as an associate at Proskauer Rose LLP in the Labor Department, practicing employment litigation.

What are your long-term career aspirations?

I’d like to get into Federal Appellate work or go in-house counsel with a major sports team.

Please tell us about the organizations and activities you participated in at LSU Law, including any awards or honors you received.

I was on the winning team for the Fall 2021 Ira S. Flory Mock Trial Competition, and I served on the Journal of Energy Law and Resources and Board of Advocates. I also served as an academic tudor and earned Dean’s Scholar academic honors.

I also participated National Criminal Advocacy Trial Competition, and I was chosen to participate in filing an amicus briefing for a case before the United States Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals.

Please tell us about any LSU Law faculty, classes, or other experiences that were particularly impactful on your legal education.

Professor Bill Corbett’s mentorship has been particularly impactful on my legal education. His guidance and advice have proven to be invaluable, and I appreciate all he has done.

What are your fondest memories from your time at LSU Law?

Presenting my closing argument at the National Criminal Advocacy Trial Competition and my oral argument as amicus before the Air Force Criminal Court of Appeals. The feeling of accomplishment during each moment was electric, and I am thankful that I was able to share them with my closest friends.

What advice would you give to students entering law school who aspire to become an Order of the Barristers member when they graduate?

This is a tough question because there is no boilerplate method, but order members do all share one trait—participation. Get involved early and often with the advocacy program.
