Texas native Bethany Bunge is studying in her second year at LSU Law, but she already feels at home in Louisiana.
Bunge hails from the University of Texas, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in liberal arts. During her time at UT, Bunge decided she wanted to pursue a graduate career. She did not know which school to apply to, but she knew that she was looking for a valuable education with an SEC experience.
LSU fit the bill and Bunge decided to move from one capitol to another.
Upon acceptance to LSU Law, Bunge received the Dean Paul M Herbert Scholarship, an award that has allowed her to focus on her studies.
“I would not be studying law at LSU without the scholarship, and I cannot thank LSU enough,” Bunge said.
Bunge’s studies have brought her to the Louisiana Law Review, Vol. 79, where she plans on writing a comparative piece “discussing how mental illness should be used in determining fault in a divorce in Louisiana”.
Her advocacy concerning mental illness goes further as she works with Cornerstones, an organization that promotes mental health awareness for law students.
Additionally, Bunge serves as a research assistant to Assistant Dean Andrea Carroll and as an ambassador for LSU Law’s Admissions Office.
Considering her future, Bunge is open to clerking for a federal or state judge immediately after graduation. Beyond that, she to hopes work for a private firm, either in Louisiana or Texas.
