Todd Venie named new Director of LSU Law Library and Information Services

A headshot photo of a man wearing a suit and tieThe LSU Law Center has named Todd Venie the new Assistant Dean and Director for the Library and Information Technology Services at LSU Law.

Venie has served as the the Associate Director of the Legal Information Center & Professor of Legal Research at the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law since July 2016. He joined Florida Law school in 2013 as the Head of Research and Instruction.

At Florida, Venie taught Legal Research, where students learn how to find relevant statutes and case law at the state and federal levels using both print and electronic formats.

His previous positions include reference librarian at the Georgetown University Law Library and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Ohio’s Fairfield County.

Venie has published several articles, with topics including affordable online sources of legal research and case law. He earned his J.D. degree at Ohio State University and his M.L.I.S. at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Venie was selected from a pool of candidates by the LSU Law Library Director Search Committee, which included professors Wendell Holmes, Darlene Goring, Olivier Moreteau, and Heidi Thompson; Law Library staff William Monroe, Natalie Palermo, and Melissa Strickland; Director of Information Technology Michael Sparks; and Dean of LSU Libraries Stanley Wilder. Venie will begin his tenure at the LSU Law Center in February 2018.
