LSU Law’s Melanie Sims was honored with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award on March 15 during a ceremony in the Robinson Courtroom.

Sims is the head of access services and government information for the LSU Law Library, where she oversees the state and federal documents collections as well as the court records collection.

The ESGR, a program of the Department of Defense, presents the Patriot Award to supervisors who contribute “to national security and protect liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Force.” Recipients of the award are nominated by employees serving in the National Guard or Reserve.

Sims was nominated by Capt. Samuel Kennedy, who works in the LSU Law Library and is a member of the National Guard.

The ESGR was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.
