LSU Law Ranked No. 11 Best Value Law School by preLaw Magazine

The LSU Law Center has been ranked the No. 11 Best Value Law School in the nation by the National Jurist preLaw Magazine, a legal education publication. LSU Law is the only Louisiana law school, public or private, included in the Best Value rankings.

The Best Value Law School rankings is designed to find the law schools where graduates have excellent chances of passing the bar and getting a legal job without taking on a ton of debt, according to the publication.

“It is exciting to be recognized for being a great value. It is the result of focusing on our students, the cost of their legal education and positive experiences and outcomes,” LSU Law Dean Tom Galligan said. “We do what we do because we believe it is the right thing for our students, not for the ranking. But it is certainly nice to be honored.”

Law schools are ranked using a formula of percentage of graduates who pass the bar exam (15 percent), employment rate (35 percent), tuition (25 percent), cost of living (10 percent and average indebtedness upon graduation (15 percent).

Published for the 10th time since 2004, the Best Value Law Schools ranking “is designed to find the law schools where graduates have excellent chances of passing the bar and getting a legal job without taking on a ton of debt,” according to preLaw Magazine.

LSU Law students traditionally achieve the state’s highest bar exam passage rate, and employment numbers for the school have remained strong. LSU Law Center students achieved the state’s highest bar passage rate, according to results released in October 2016 by the Committee on Bar Admissions of the Louisiana Supreme Court. For the Class of 2015, 91 percent of LSU Law graduates were employed as of 10 months after graduation, with 95 percent reporting. More than 82 percent of the graduates were employed in positions where bar passage was required, and an additional 12 percent were employed in positions where J.D. was an advantage.
