LSU Law Alum Jane Sherman Installed as La. Bar Foundation President

Jane Sherman, of Baton Rouge, was installed as the 2016-17 president of the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) on Friday, April 8. Other officers are Vice President Valerie Briggs Bargas, Baton Rouge; Treasurer W. Michael Street, Monroe; and Secretary Amanda W. Barnett of Alexandria.

A resident of Baton Rouge, Sherman is a Charter Fellow of the Foundation, having begun in 1987 while serving as Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association. She is a Senior Counsel in Phelps Dunbar LLP’s Baton Rouge office.  Her practice has focused on expropriation, utility and real estate related law with Phelps Dunbar and with Mangham, Hardy, Rolfs & Abadie and she now provides legal counsel and representation to various corporate entities, both non-profit and commercial. She received her BA and JD degrees from Louisiana State University.

Vice President Valerie Briggs Bargas

Bargas is a founding member of Kinchen, Walker, Bienvenu, Bargas, Reed & Helm, LLC.  Her practice is focused on insurance defense (bad faith, coverage & personal injury) and general casualty defense. She received her BA in Environmental Science and Policy from Smith College and her J.D. from Tulane University Law School.

Treasurer W. Michael Street

Street is a partner of Watson, McMillan & Harrison, L.L.P., in Monroe.  His practice is focused on construction law, employment law, medical malpractice, real estate and general litigation.  He received BA’s in Philosophy and in Political Science from Centenary College of Louisiana.  He received his JD from LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.

Secretary Amanda W. Barnett

Barnett is General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Red River Bank and Red River Bancshares, Inc., with corporate offices in Alexandria. Prior to joining the bank, Ms. Barnett was with Gold, Weems, Sues, Bruser & Rundell where her practice focused on general corporate law and commercial litigation. She has a B.A. in English Literature from Newcomb College of Tulane University, and a J.D. from Louisiana State University.
